Keith Johnston, 59, passed away on November 3, 2026 in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
Keith was born in Abilene, Texas to Don and Jane Johnston on April 5, 1967. He graduated from Abilene High School, earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama and Master's degree from Northwestern University. Keith never married but loved many people who he called family. He was a member of the Pi Cappa Alpha Fraternity and served on the National Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club.
Keith loved learning, family, friends, success, all things Abilene and Ronald Reagan! He was adventurous and traveled the world. His love of travel began when he and Troy hopped on a city bus as the age of 9 or 10 and rode all over Abilene not knowing where they would end up. Of course, all of this was unbeknownst to their mother! Whether he was blowing up army men in the garage using his dad's gunpowder or helping win a photo at a family reunion in a bidding war, purchasing a business he did it with a passion. Keith was stubborn, but he was also loyal and generous. Many have shared stories of how he helped them or their children.
Keith began a golf career that started at Abilene High that grew into a life-long love. An early experience as a caddy for PGA Champion Fuzzy Zoeller fueled his passion to improve his skills at golf which he continued to hone and use to his advantage in the business world. On the golf course Keith met many famous and influential people from former NFL athletes to CEOs of major corporations. Many business deals were closed on the course. Keith loved the country club lifestyle, and his golf skills and business acumen led him to achieve his goals and dreams. From his humble start at Maxwell Municipal to storied PGA courses across the country, to courses in Nepal and India, to the Hackberry Country Club in Las Colinas where Keith lived out his final days, Keith never met a stranger and turned everyone he met into a friend and/or a business associate.
Keith was preceded in death by his mother, Jane and his sister, Angela.
Keith is survived by father, Don; brothers Donald (Rhonda) and Troy (Melissa). Nephews and nieces: Shane (Natalie), Tyler (Kady), Dylan (Landry), Hailie (Quinton) and Taylor (Oscar) and great nephews and nieces: Fox, Finn, Rip, Navy, Lennon, Kit, Isabella, Jackson and Valley.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Tonya, his caregiver, Hospice and those that visited Keith during the last months of his life.
