Katie Lee Hudspeth Lowe, 93 of Abilene, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at First Christian Church with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. There will be a reception following the memorial service at the church. A private family graveside will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Kate was born March 21, 1923 to Elmer and Bessie Polk Hudspeth in Brock, Texas. She graduated from Caddo High School in Caddo, Texas and attended Draughon's Business College in Abilene for one year and was employed by the Area Engineers at Camp Barkeley during WWII. She was also employed as an Insurance Claims secretary for General Adjustment Bureau and Alexander Claim Service.
Kate was married to Edwin M. Lowe on January 7, 1945 at First Christian Church in Abilene, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2006.
She was active member of First Christian Church in Abilene for over 75 years where she was an Elder Emeritus, a member of the Searchers Class and President of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She also served on the Evangelistic Committee, the Church Shut-In Visitation Section, and was a volunteer for over 10 years for the "Breakfast on Beach Street" ministry. Kate was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Dyess Air Force Base Hospital. She was also a member of the Carpe Diem Study Club and the Abilene Insurance Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Ed Lowe, and a son-in-law, Skip Watson, brother Elmer B. Hudspeth Jr. and wife Winnie, and her sister Betty Foster.
Kate is survived by her son, Joe Martin Lowe and wife Bonnie of Round Rock, her daughter, Cindy Watson of Lubbock, two granddaughters, Kelly Ann Jenkins and husband Mike, and Laura Lowe Freeman and husband Kyle; one grandson, Kevin Martin Watson and wife Missy; six great-grandchildren: Courtney, Caeden, Garrett, Carson, Brady,and Boene as well as several special nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in Kate's honor to First Christian Church, 1420 North 3rd St., Abilene, TX 79601 or to the donor's favorite charity.
