Joyce Fletcher Corbin

Joyce Corbin, 96, formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away on February 10, 2022, in Abilene, TX. 

Memorial services will be held at 10 A.M., Monday, February 14, 2022, at Oldham Lane Church of Christ with Chris McCurley of the church officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones at Jim Corbin's house immediately following the service at the church. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls at a later date.

Joyce was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to Philip and Ethel Fletcher on December 27, 1925. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Salt Lake City, Utah.  She was involved with many sports – basketball, softball, skiing, and skating. She also beat all the boys to win the citywide marble tournament. She was a graduate of South High.

Joyce married Jim Corbin on January 6, 1947, at Memory Grove in Salt Lake City. They moved to many cities from coast to coast with his work. In Wichita Falls, she was a housewife and worked for her husband’s company, Tom’s Snack Food Distributorship. She later worked for over 25 years in various positions at Walmart retiring at the age of 85.

After moving to Abilene to be close to family, she lived at Lyndale Senior Retirement Community for over ten years where she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, bridge, was a bingo champion, and enjoyed eating with her friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her son John, her brother Jim Fletcher, and sister Edith Rogerson.

Joyce is survived by her daughter JoAnn Avara, son Jim Corbin and his wife Laurie, grandchildren Clint Corbin and wife Che, Kyle Corbin and wife Melissa, Cody Corbin, Mark Avara, Jennifer Corbin, Lauren McGuire and husband Matt, and two great granddaughters Cambry and Colby.

Memorials may be made to West Texas Rehab, Hendrick Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
