Mr. Joseph Henry Hudson Sr., passed away October 20, 2025, in Abilene, Texas.
The Wake/Rosary will be held Monday October 27, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. from 5:00-7:00pm. The Rosary prayer and farewells will begin at 6:00pm.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd. Burial services will follow at The Texas Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Rd., at 3:00pm.
Joseph Henry Hudson Sr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Elmer and Gertrude Hudson on December 11, 1945. He attended school in Selbyville, Delaware until the 10th grade. He later received a football scholarship at St. James Preparatory School in Hagerstown, Maryland and was then accepted to the University of Delaware. However, Joe chose, to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and upon graduation from formal schooling in the summer of 1966, he left for Parris Island, South Carolina to complete boot camp.
Joe then deployed to Okinawa, Japan in the summer of 1967 and eventually left for Vietnam in January of 1968, where he served as a Radio Operator. Joe fought in the battle of Khe Sanh during the Tet Offensive where he and his fellow Marines held the base against countless assaults. Joe was awarded the following: the Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campagne Medal with Device, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksmanship Sharpshooter Badge. After 3 years of service, Joe received an Honorable Discharge.
Joe was also a proud Charter member of the Maj. John Keith Wells Marine Corps League Detachment. He was also a devout member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and filled the duties of a Eucharistic Minister, and the Welcome/Reception Committee.
Joseph Hudson is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Gertrude Hudson, his sisters Janice and Sandy Hudson, his wife Martha Hudson, his grandsons Jacob Stamey and Bo Garrett, and daughter Pam Garrett.
Joe is survived by his bride Betty Hudson, his children Joe and Nichole Hudson, Amy and Mike Stamey, Heather Hudson and Chris Wright, Patricia and Dale Frerich, Michael Albus, 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
