Johnie Ruth Bird

Johnie Ruth Bird, 94, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in Abilene.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 31, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.

Johnie was born in Merkel, Jones County, Texas to Manson Leon and Ella Wheeler (Cox) James on March 30, 1927. She went to school at Trent where she was the Salutatorian. She married George Clinton Bird in Abilene on May 14, 1946. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Johnie is preceded in death by her parents, husband and great granddaughter Jenna.

Johnie is survived by her children: Ginger Cargile and husband Tommy, Terry Bird and wife Debbie; grandchildren, Chad Cargile and wife Dana, Amanda Cargile, Eric Bird and wife Amy, Philip Bird and wife Amanda, Emily Wyatt and husband Patrick; great grandchildren, Nate, Colin, Cole, Janie, Sydney, Owen, Johnie, Silas, Josie, Evie, David and James.

Pallbearers will be Owen Bird, Nate Cargile, Colin Cargile and Cole Cargile.

Memorials may be given in honor of Johnie to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1651 Pine St, Abilene, TX 79601
