John R. Winfield, III

John R. Winfield, III, 72, of Abilene, passed from this life on Friday, June 4, 2021 in Abilene.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

John was born on September 10, 1948 in Camden, New Jersey to John and Elaine (Carroll) Winfield. He served in the US Air Force as an instructor. After retiring, he loved teaching his grandchildren how to fish.   

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jane Winfield and his granddaughter, Amanda Charlton.  

John is survived by children, Melissa Winfield, Johnny Winfield, and Stacey Winfield all of Abilene and Shannon Winfield of New Braunsfels, Texas; his sister, Joyce Winfield; six grandchildren, Zachary Southwood, Shayla Maxwell, Malik Winfield, Donovan Winfield, Adrin Clark, and Brianna Sparks; two great grandchildren, Auston and Jadon Charlton; and former wife and mother of their children, Debbie Howerton of Abilene.
