John Francis Meloy

John Francis Meloy, Sr., 92, of Abilene passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, in Abilene. Visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., November 12, 2014 in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Rev. Kevin Kennedy will officiate. John was born on March 18, 1922 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania to Thomas M. Meloy and Margaret Hamil Meloy. He married Valetta Mae Way on February, 11, 1950 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. He worked as a Shipping Supervisor for the Federal Laboratories in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania. He was a Veteran of World War II and served in the Army. He loved to hunt, he was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a dedicated family man who loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife, Valetta Mae Meloy; his parents, Thomas M. Meloy and Margaret Hamil Meloy; his brothers, Leo, Dutch, Frank and Jim; and sisters, Dorothy, Jean, Mary and Margaret. John is survived by daughters, Barbara and husband Gary of Blairsville, Pennsylvania; Genevieve and husband Malin Sadler of Denver, Colorado; sons John Meloy Jr of Lexington, North Carolina; and Mark Meloy and wife Vicky of Abilene, Texas; six grandchildren, Carrie Elrick, Kelley Boudreau-Backlund, Kim Boudreau-Harder, Katelyn Sadler, Corey Meloy, and Chris Meloy; seven-great grandchildren, Morgan Elrick, Nathan Backlund, Kaley Backlund, Matthew Backlund, Michael Harder, Sean Harder and Brayden Heath.
