John Carl McCoy

1945 — January 5, 2022

John Was born June 22, 1945, in Merkel Texas. John was pre-deceased by his parents, Ruth Howard and Raymond Anderson McCoy and daughter Melody. When his daddy passed, he was 13 years old and he became the 'man of the house', or at least he thought so! He got a job throwing newspapers so he could help with money for things he wanted or needed and from that point on he began his service to family and country. He worked in the oil field until he went to active-duty Navy at the age of 18. After his service was finished, he went to work for Mrs. Brown on her ranch out of Cisco Texas. This was where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth "Liz" Leveridge. John and Liz married in July 1969 and began their life together in Abilene. During this time John decided he would be a fireman and went to school for that but soon decided that was not for him. He signed up for Border Patrol school in McAllen and left Liz in Abilene close to family as she was expecting their first child. Once Jesse was born in July 1970 they moved to McAllen where John had changed to the McAllen police department. Their second child, Melody was born there and when Jesse was about to start school they decided to move out of the valley and return to Abilene Texas. John started work as a police officer in Abilene and rose to detective rank where he retired. He only stayed retired about a year as he just needed to be busy. He started a mowing service for people around his home area of Clyde. After doing this for a few years he decided he needed an indoor job, so he went to work for security at Hendricks Hospital in Abilene and retired from there at the age of 74. John loved to hunt, fish and just be outdoors. He always had a dog close to him, and they always loved and worked hard for him. One of his most favorite places is the Snoddy farm which is the old home place of Liz's mothers' family outside of Cisco. John is survived by his wife Liz, son Jesse and wife Jody. Three grandsons, Zachary, Nicholas, and Jacob. Sisters, Monty Sanderson, Dolores Cowart and husband Darrow, and brother Raymond A. McCoy and wife Cynthia. Several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, January 7, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 8th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow at the Pisgah Cemetery in Cisco, TX.
