John Robert Grant

John Robert Grant, Christian, Husband, Father, Pops, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend of Abilene, Texas, passed away on June 27, 2024.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 30 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 1, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Potosi Cemetery.

John Robert Grant was born in Odessa, Texas to John and Vydell Brown Grant on December 21, 1957. He went to school in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1976, and Hardin Simmons University in 1980 with a BBS degree.

Robert married his love, Brenda Simpson Grant, on April 16, 1988, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas. Robert was an Automobile Claims Representative for over 35 years with State Farm before retiring in 2018. His employment with State Farm took him to Wichita Falls, Crowley, and Sachse, Texas before returning home to Abilene.

Robert enjoyed outdoor activities throughout his life, including running, bicycling, hiking, camping, boating, and road trips in their travel trailer. Robert was very involved in his sons' sports activities, and he and Brenda enjoyed helping at various events with the Crowley High School Band. Robert was honored to serve as a deacon at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, John Grant and mother, Vydell Grant.

Robert is survived by his wife, Brenda Grant. They were blessed with two sons, Brian Grant of Abilene, and Eric Grant and his wife Emily of Fort Worth; granddaughter Charlotte of Fort Worth; grandson Bennett born the morning of June 27 of Fort Worth; brother, Jim Grant and his wife Elise; sister, Gayle Bailey and her husband Mark; in-laws, Marion and Glenda Simpson; brother-in-law, Curtis Simpson; sisters-in-law, Carol Kaercher and her husband Joe, and Christy Ferguson and her husband, Chris; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Parvaresh and her husband Jami, Amanda Alexander, Cody Carter and his wife Kayla, Kayla Woolums and her husband Chris, Ashley Mini and her husband Carl, Christopher Simpson, Matt Ferguson and his wife Katie, Brett Ferguson, Lawson Bailey, and Rachael Bailey; two great-nieces, Emma Wollums and Prairie Alexander, and one great-nephew, Cole Carter.

Pallbearers will be Matt Ferguson, Brett Ferguson, Lawson Bailey, Cody Carter, Jami Parvaresh, Christopher Simpson, Chris Woolums, Carl Mini, Roger Russell, Rodney Smith, and Ron Teal. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
