Joann Burns Adcock

1947 — July 21, 2022

Joann Burns Adcock, age 74, joined our Heavenly Father July 21, 2022.

Joann was born in Abilene, Texas to J. L. ‘Spec’ and Marie Burns on August 29, 1947. Her father passed away when she was six and her mother married Melvin Layne who raised her like his own. Joann graduated from Abilene High School in 1965. After graduation, she attended Cisco Junior College. Joann married Gary Lee Adcock on August 23, 1969, in Abilene.

Joann worked as a Travel Agent for sixteen years which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was involved in Las Afecionadas at The Grace Museum, The Women’s Club and Ballet Abilene Theater Board. She was awarded Volunteer of the Year for Grace Museum in 2015.

Joann was always on the go. She enjoyed her many friends and was the life of the party. Her greatest love was her two daughters, two son-in-law’s, two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Joann was preceded in death by Gary Lee Adcock (husband), Melvin Layne (father), Marie Layne (mother), Waymon Adcock (father-in-law) and Johnnie Adcock (mother-in-law).

Joann is survived by her daughters Melissa Nelson of Austin and Meredith Brannon of Abilene; son-in-law’s Shannon Nelson and Chris Brannon; and grandchildren Colton and Cooper Nelson and Harper Brannon. Joann is also survived by her sister Janet Ulrich, brother-in-law, Wayne Adcock and wife Ferrell of Merkel.

The viewing and family visitation will be Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2022 also at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow immediately after in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas.
