Joan K. Moore

d. August 4, 2022

Joan Kendrick Moore, has, in the words of the Apostle Paul, fought the good fight, ran the race, and kept the faith. Joan, 91, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 4, 2022.  She was surrounded by her children.

Joan was born to Martha and Vandal Kendrick on the Antilley Ranch just outside of Wingate, Texas on August 29, 1930.   She was the youngest of their five children.  From an early age her life's cornerstone was her faith and her family.  That was something that she carried with her all of her life.  She attended school in Wingate until their family moved into Abilene where she graduated from Abilene High in 1947.  She then went onto Abilene Christian College where she graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in education.  It was in Seagraves, Texas, after she had moved there to accept a teaching position, that she met the love of her life Ike Moore.  Ike and Joan were married June 2, 1951 and were happily married for 50 years before Ike’s passing in 2001.

Both Ike and Joan dedicated their lives to education.  As a lifelong learner herself, she taught special education, English second language learners and every grade from 1st to 12th throughout her 30+ year teaching career.

Those who knew Joan best will remember her as a beautiful, spirit led follower of Jesus.  Her strong faith led her to selflessly serve others throughout her life; sewing hundreds of dresses for the Zambia medical mission, delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and working at Royal Family Kids Camp.  She was well known for her “Game Ministry” which blessed a number of women at the Hillcrest Church of Christ.    She leaves a legacy of what it means to truly be a compassionate and quiet servant for the Lord.

Starting with her grandchildren so many of the lives that she touched knew her as Momma Joan and what she loved most was her family. Some of her happiest times were the ones spent at lake LBJ hosting a house full of family and friends.  Whether playing games, teaching the grandkids to water ski, or sewing Momma Joan always brought joy, patience and laughter to all.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Ike Moore.  She is survived by her son Kelly Moore and his wife Kathy of Abilene, Texas, daughter Melissa Barrow and her husband Lance of Colleyville, Texas and daughter Melynn Parrott of Dallas, Texas.  Her 6 grandchildren, Kyle Moore and his wife Beth, Kallie Pringle, Kasey Lambert and her husband Wes, Katie Barrow, Caroline Barton and her husband Max and Ashley Price and her husband Casey.  As well as 5 great - grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hillcrest Church of Christ mission funds, Our Father’s Children organization or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 7th from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Church of Christ. Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday August 8th at Hillcrest Church of Christ.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
