Jerry Thomas Weems, age 75, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, after a year-long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on August 17, 1950, in Stamford, Texas, Jerry was the son of Henry Howard and Ruth Goff Weems. He grew up in Stamford and went on to found Jerry Weems Electric, which he owned and operated for 37 years in Abilene before retiring in 2021.
Jerry married the love of his life, Virginia Bolin, on May 9, 1975, and together they built a beautiful life over 50 years of marriage. He was a loving father to Jennifer and Lindsey and a proud “PaPa” to Grant and Hannah Willie. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy of love and faith will live on through them.
Jerry earned the designation of Master Electrician — a fitting profession for a man who truly brought light wherever he went. He not only lit up homes and workplaces but also hearts, with his quick wit, kindness, tenderness, and joy. He was a steady, faithful presence who reflected the light of Christ in all that he did.
Jerry was a proud Alumni by Choice of Baylor University, and he and Virginia would find any excuse to visit Jennifer and Lindsey in Waco while they attended Baylor. He was a man who could fix nearly anything, building 8 houses over his lifetime, but the cornerstone of Jerry’s life was his strong faith in Jesus Christ. He served as a deacon and was committed to sharing the Gospel with others.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughters Jennifer Willie (Craig) and Lindsey Curtis (Nate); grandchildren Grant Willie and Hannah Willie; and several cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and “favorite” nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Howard and Ruth Goff Weems, and brothers Donnie, Johnny, and Kenneth Weems.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Wylie Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Potosi Cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Friday, November 7th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., in Abilene, Texas.
The Weems family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Allen Schultz and his staff and to Hospice of the Big Country for the compassionate care they provided Jerry and his family.
Jerry will be deeply missed, but the light of his love, laughter, and faith will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
