Janice Asbury

Janice Jennings Asbury, 87, of Abilene passed away on June 21, 2023, in her home at Quail Hollow Farm. 

A viewing will be 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

A celebration of Janice Asbury’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Janice was born in Abilene, Texas to Leroy and Elizabeth Jennings on October 27, 1935. Janice attended Abilene High School and graduated from Baylor University in 1957 with an education degree. Janice Jennings and Gordon Asbury, Jr. were married in Abilene on December 22, 1955, at First Baptist Church. A 53-year journey began. Gordon and Janice built their home at Quail Hollow Farm in 1968. Gordon died in 2009. The Asbury’s were members of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church where Janice taught college students in Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served in many other capacities.

She was reunited in Heaven with her parents; brother, Leroy Jennings, Jr.; husband, Gordon Asbury, Jr.; son, Gordon Asbury III; grandson, Andrew Asbury; and many other relatives and friends. 

Janice is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Sims, her husband Dean, and their children Jacob and Sarah; and daughter-in-law, Aloma, and her children Bryan and Caleb. Janice had three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Janice to Hendrick Hospice Care.

Janice's family wants to express their gratitude to Juanita Campos for her friendship, compassionate care, and supportive assistance throughout the past 3 years. The family is also deeply grateful to the team of caregivers and Hospice staff who  provided countless hours of tender, nurturing care.
