James Whitman

James Otis Whitman, age 45, passed away on June 12, 2023, in Abilene, Texas. 

James’ life will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. 

James was born in Seoul, Korea to James and Sun Ok Whitman on January 18, 1978.  He grew up in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Andres High School in 1996.  He married Maripi Gutierrez on June 9, 2000, in El Paso, Texas.  

After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and honorably served his country for 21 years. 

James served his community as the Operations Director and ultimately Executive Director of Big Country AIDS Resources.

He loved sharing his passion for grilling and cooking for his family and friends.  

He is survived by his wife, Maripi and children, M’Lia and Antonio Whitman; his parents, James and Sun Ok Whitman; sister Lachelle and brother Lawrence and wife Nadine; as well as many nieces and nephews.
