James Michael Packwood, affectionately known as Mickey, 78, of Abilene, passed away on January 16, 2026, in the care of Hendricks Hospice of Abilene.
Visitation will be held 5:30-7:30pm, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Hamil Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 am Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Broadview Baptist Church with David Cason officiating.
Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
James Michael Packwood was born in Haskell, TX to Rex Packwood and Lois Burson Packwood on September 8, 1947. Shortly after he was born, his parents moved the family to Abilene, TX. Mickey and his siblings, Donna and Debbie, grew up on Palm Street. He went to school at Bowie Elementary, Jefferson Jr. High and graduated from Cooper High School in 1965. Before enlisting in the military, he completed one year of college at McMurry University. Mickey served in the army during the Vietnam war. He actively fought for his country and received two purple hearts, the bronze star and silver star. After his honorable discharge from the military, he married Carolyn Farquhar on December 4,1970 in Alexandra, Virginia. Mickey and Carolyn began their marriage in Abilene, Tx. They both worked for Wyatt’s Cafeteria. Upon receiving a promotion to assistant general manager, Mickey, Carolyn and their son Randy moved to Dallas. While in Dallas their daughter Stacy was born. After Stacy was born, Mickey decided to change careers and moved his family back to Abilene, Tx where he began his work in the HVAC Industry which would span over 45 years, before retiring from Morrison Supply.
James Michael Packwood was preceded in death by his loving wife Carolyn Packwood, his parent’s Rex Packwood & Lois Packwood, his granddaughter Jayma Packwood and grandson Taylor Keesee.
James Michael Packwood is survived by his son Randy and wife Cynthia Packwood, his daughter Stacy Packwood Little, his 4 grandchildren Jayden wife Meagan Packwood, Jerron, wife Kaylee Packwood, Slade wife Krystin Little, Destiny husband Zachary Milliorn, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Burson, Mark Burson, and Randy Reece.
Pallbearers will be Slade Little, Zachary Milliorn, Nick Atkinson, Zach Atkinson, Jerron Packwood and Jayden Packwood.
Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warriors project and Meals on Wheels.
The family of James Packwood would like to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of Hendrick Medical Center, especially the nurses of C7 and P3. Mickey especially enjoyed the care of his three nurses Mia, Melany, and Joseph.
