Jacqueline "Jackie" Stowe

1936 — February 9, 2022

Jacqueline “Jackie” Stowe, 85, passed away on February 9, 2022, in Abilene.  Jackie was born August 23, 1936, in Dalhart, TX to Blake Victor and Minnie Bolton.  At the age of 10, she moved to Plainview with her parents and younger brother Blake.  She graduated from Plainview High School in 1954 and from there, attended Texas Tech University.  She received a BBA in Business in 1958.  Later, she attended Hardin Simmons University where she received her Masters in Education in 1964. 

While living in Abilene, she met John Stowe and they were married on August 21, 1965.  Daughter Jill completed their family in 1967.

Jackie was dedicated to education, teaching and educating her students for 42 years.  She taught business at Abilene High School for 7 years and served as an Assistant Professor at Hardin Simmons University for 6 years.  She spent the last 29 years of her career as an Assistant Professor of Business at McMurry University.  She was named the Outstanding Business Teacher by the Texas Business Education Association in 1982 and 1983 and again in 1988.  She was also a long-time member of the Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Throughout her life, Jackie was very active in her school, church and community.   She was an avid Texas Tech supporter, especially since her daughter and grandchildren are Tech grads.  She was a member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association and a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. 

In September of 1965, Jackie joined Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was involved in many church activities.  She was a member of the Renewer Sunday School class, a member of Sara’s Circle, chairperson of the Board for Mother’s Day Out and a member of the Finance Committee. 

Anyone who knew Jackie knew she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her years as a member of the Fort Phantom Bridge club.  She served on the Abilene Teacher’s Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for 6 years and was a member of the AFTCU’s Supervisory Committee from 2011-2019.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, brother and her father and mother in-law, JM and Ailleen Stowe. 

Jackie is survived by her husband of 56 years, John of Abilene, her daughter Jill Foster and her husband, Jeff and the light of her life grandchildren, Corbin Lynn Foster and Lindsey Nicole Foster, all of Rowlett. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Colleen Richards of View, her niece Kay Richards of View and nephew, JD Richards also of View. 

The family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Wesley Court for their care during her stay.  Special thanks to Hendrick Hospice for their loving support during her final days. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18 from 5 to 7 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Services will be on Saturday, February 19 at the funeral home chapel at 11 am with Pastor Dustin Wilhite officiating.  A private burial service will be held for the family at Elmwood Memorial Park. 

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be James Boyd, Carl Brown, Claudia Clinton, Dr. Sandra Harper, Rochelle Johnson, Mark Miller, Dr. Pug Parris and Pat Wicker.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial made in Jackie’s name to any of the following:
