Irma Winifred McCullough, 90, of Abilene went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday September 24, 2024, while at Hendrick Hospice Care Center, Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, October 3rd at Wylie Baptist Church with Mike Harkrider, officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery 7457 W. Lake Rd, Abilene.
Winnie was born November 9, 1933 in her childhood farmhouse four miles south of Studley, Kansas to George and Nella Simon. She attended a county grade school and graduated from Hoxie High School. She attended one year of college at Ft. Haye State.
Winne married Harold McCullough January 1, 1956 at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, Studley, Kansas. Harold served in the United States Air Force. They were stationed in 7 different locations. Serving one assignment overseas in England.
Winnie enjoyed cooking. While overseas she began decorating wedding cakes. She also enjoyed refurnishing furniture. She was a talented seamstress sewing clothing and drapes along with many, many quilts! Winnie retired from AISD food service where she served as a supervisor.
Winnie was a faithful member of Pioneer Drive Baptist in Abilene, Texas. She was a children's Sunday School Director and teacher. She faithfully served refreshments during Vacation Bible School until 2019. She is best remembered as the lady who makes homemade cinnamon rolls for the college students. Both Hal and Winnie were active in Church Builders of Texas. There Winnie served in the kitchen helping prepare meals for those working on the church building project.
Winnie was preceded in death by her son, Bruce McCullough, brother Vergil (Neva) Simon, brother Delma (June) Simon, sister Vesta (Russell) Hall, sister Elaine (Junior) Wagoner, brother-in-law Jim Mader, nephews Jerry Simon, Galen Simon and Bobby Hall.
She leaves behind her husband of 68 years Harold McCullough, Sons Brad (Candice) McCullough, Scott (Tracie) McCullough. Along with grandchildren Brad Jr. (Taryn) McCullough, Michael (Cydnee) McCullough, Caylee, Carly and Kendal McCullough, brother Edwin (Leann) Simon, sister Wilma Mader and many, many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Bert Agnew, George Bouquet, David Ingram, Danny Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds & Dean Taggart,
