Idi Mae (Sis) Newton Arey, 97, passed from this earthly life into the arms of Jesus Monday, April 27, 2026. Visitation will be Thursday April 30, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Memorial Services will be held Friday May 1, 2026 at 10:00 AM with burial at Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery with Rev Ronnie Newton, her son, officiating, assisted by her grandson, Luke Newton.
She was born April 15,1929 to Charles and Bessie Robertson in Jones County TX. She attended Denton Valley and Abilene schools. She married Joe Arey in February 1979. Idi Mae was a faithful member of First Methodist Church in Abilene.
She served on the founding board of Sears Retirement Home, now Wesley Court; president of the Abilene Hope Haven board; member of Abilene Christian Women's Association; and Gideon International auxiliary.
Idi Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and his wife, A.G. (Son) and Mable Robertson; and her niece Judy Brcka.
She is survived by her children, Ronnie Newton (Gwen) of Lubbock; Billy Newton of Abilene; Cindy Ehart (Kevin) of Florida; and Ann Wagner of Abilene; her grandchildren, Luke Newton (Kara); Colby Ehart (Susan); John Newton (Sarah); Kye Ehart (Michelle); Mark Newton; Dale Wagner (Jamie); 13 great grandchildren; nephew, A.G. Robertson, Jr. (Kay); niece, Carolyn Ratliff, and beloved friends, Charlotte Brooks and Teresa Tune.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Lyndale Assisted Living, Wesley Court, Windcrest and Hendrick Hospice. Memorials may be made to donor's choice.
