Harvey Lee Reynolds, age 78, joined his Savior on Friday, September 16, 2005 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 19th, at 1:00 p.m. at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Stan Allcorn, Jeff Reid, and Jack Ridlehoover officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, September 18th from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX 79606. Harvey Lee Reynolds was born on August 27, 1927 in Knox City, Texas to parents Roy Harvey Reynolds and Grace Lee Fulbright. Harvey graduated from Knox City High School and attended Texas Tech University. He joined the United States Navy in 1945 and during his service earned the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. He met Virginia Buckley in 1950 while he was home on leave; and they married on May 29, 1951 in Knox City, Texas. Their first home was in San Diego, California. They moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1953 where their son, Danny Keith was born. They moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1955; and were transferred back to San Diego in 1958. In the summer of 1963, they were transferred to Oahu, Hawaii where Harvey worked in an underground facility which was the communications center for the Armed Forces in the Pacific. They moved to Washington, D.C. in 1964 and in 1965 Harvey retired from the Navy. They moved to Abilene where Harvey went to work for Condley and Company. Harvey never retired and worked at the family business Reynolds Manufacturing. He was a member and Deacon at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. He loved to golf, read, and coach baseball. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Christene Poteet and Pat Strahan; and an infant son, Johnny Lee Reynolds. Harvey is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-four years, Virginia Reynolds, of Abilene; a son: Danny and wife, Vicki, of Abilene; two grandsons: Jacob and Jared Reynolds, of Abilene; a brother: Bud Reynolds and wife, Sequoyah, of Knox City; and a sister: Cleo Collins, of Knox City; also numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Hal McCullough, Bob Nelson, Dock Tyler, Don Reynolds, Rick Dobbins and Charles Eller. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Adult 3 Men's Sunday School Class of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and current and former employees of Reynolds Manufacturing. Memorials may be sent to the Missions Ministry of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
