Harold McCullough, 93 of Abilene went home to be with the Lord on April 23rd while at Wesley Court Skilled Nursing in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30th at 9am at Wylie Baptist Church with Pastor Darrin Ray officiating. Burial will be the same day at 11am at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery 7457 W. Lake RD, Abilene, Tx.
Harold L. McCullough was born on September 9, 1932, in Denver, Colorado to Arthur and Marie McCullough. Harold spent most of his youth as a lifeguard at a resort in Eldorado Springs, Colorado. He entered the US Air Force in November of 1952. He worked in airplane electronics.
Harold married Winifred Simon on January 1, 1956, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Studley, Kansas. Hal was a devoted husband and caretaker to Winnie for 68 years. Serving in the Air Force they were stationed in 7 different locations. One of which was overseas in England.
He and Winnie’s last assignment was in Abilene, Texas where he retired as Senior Master Sargeant.
He then went to work for the US Postal Service where he served as a mail carrier and in Post Office maintenance for 20 years.
Hal was a faithful member of Pioneer Drive Baptist in Abilene, Texas. He served as a deacon and faithfully ministered to the widows of the church. He worked along his fellow church brothers in the Nehemiah Building Ministry building wheelchair ramps. Where there was a need in the church or in the community Hal “showed up”.
He and Winnie attended many Church Builders summer building projects throughout the United States. Winnie would work in the kitchen providing meals for workers. Hal would work on the building project. His last years were spent in the wood saw tent cutting wood and drinking a cup of coffee.
This past October Hal had the privilege to attend the 2025 Permian Basin Honor Flight.
Hal is preceded in death by his loving wife Winnie, and his son, Bruce McCullough. Hal leaves behind Sons Brad (Candice) McCullough, Scott (Tracie) McCullough. Along with grandchildren Brad Jr. (Taryn) McCullough, Michael (Cydnee) McCullough, Caeley McCullough, Carley McCullough and Kendal McCullough. Great grandchildren Collyns McCullough, Li’Ric Wesby and A’mari McCullough.
Pallbearers will be Bert Agnew, Danny Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Jared Reynolds & Dean Taggart.
