Gordon Riskus

Gordon Riskus, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the age of 70. He suffered from CHF and COPD and was admitted July 21, 2008 at a local medical facility. Funeral services, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating, will be at 10:00 am Saturday, August 2 in the chapel at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in the Hamby Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday at the funeral home until 8:00 pm. Gordon was born January 14, 1938 near Jay, Oklahoma. He married Mary Sue Waldon in Henrietta, Texas on September 3, 1982. Abilene has been Gordon's home since 1968. He was a truck driver, and at the time of his retirement was an owner/operator of six trucks leased to ACE Transportation in Lafayette, Louisiana. He provided oil field service trucking for the local industry and operated an oil field pipe storage facility. After retirement in 2001, Gordon enjoyed traveling in his RV visiting Colorado, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Alabama, Illinois and Indiana. At the first of June he had just returned from a 6,000 mile trip, visiting old friends and relatives in Alabama, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Colorado. Gordon was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Gordon is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Riskus, of Abilene; five sons, Paul Riskus and wife Renee, of San Antonio, Robert Cranfill and wife Cindy, of Spokane, Washington, Harrel Waldon and wife Twylia, of Hamby, Gerral Waldon, of Abilene, and Steve Johnson and wife Jody, of Tracy, California; two daughters, Regina Cochran and husband Leroy, of Alvin, Texas, Sheryl Weaver and husband Rickey, of Abilene; two brothers, Daniel E. Chrisman and Gerald P. Chrisman and wife Dru, of Lago Vista, Texas;14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
