Glenda Oakley Wyrick, 84, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on August 20, 2025, in Abilene. Glenda's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love for her family and a strong, independent spirit. She was born in Big Spring, Texas, on September 28, 1940, to James and Winne Dell "Sue" Oakley.
Glenda found happiness in marriage twice, first to Warren Tellgren, with whom she had three children: James Russell, Warren Dell, and Patreese Adele (Butler). Later, she married Arvil Wyrick, and together they welcomed two more children, Mark Kevin and Kathleen Estelle (Collom). Glenda dedicated many years of her professional life as a civilian administrative employee at Dyess Air Force Base. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Warren Dell Tellgren.
Glenda was strong, independent, and loving to all who knew her. She was fondly known by most members of her family as "Mamaw." Glenda was the kind of person who approached every challenge with a quiet determination and unwavering spirit. Her independence was evident throughout her life, and she never shied away from doing things her own way. This strength was balanced by a deep and unconditional love for her family and friends, which was the cornerstone of her life. As "Mamaw," she was a constant source of support and affection, offering a listening ear, a comforting hug, or a word of encouragement whenever it was needed. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many, and her warm presence will be deeply missed.
Glenda is survived by her children, James and Michele Tellgren, Patreese Adele Tellgren (Butler), Mark Kevin Wyrick, and Kathleen Estelle Wyrick (Collom). She is also survived by her sister, Pasty Raye Oakley (Gregg), twelve grandchildren, and a multitude of great-grandchildren.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Wincrest Health & Rehabilitation and Dr. John Wray of Abilene, Texas. Their compassionate and professional care provided immense comfort and support to Glenda and her family during her final days, and for that, they are truly grateful.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Potosi Cemetery, located at 2782 Potosi Road, Abilene, Texas 79602. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
