Glen Edwin Brooks, aged 95, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at Hendrick South Hospital in Abilene, Texas.
Born on April 26, 1930, in Alameda, California, Glen built a rewarding career as a real estate agent and broker, working primarily in the Hayward, California area—a role he greatly enjoyed.
Those who knew Glen fondly remember his unique sense of humor, often expressed through what came to be known as “Glen-isms”—clever and unexpected twists of words that brought laughter to many conversations.
After moving to Abilene, Glen became actively involved with the local Alzheimer’s support group, driven by the loss of his mother and all three wives to the disease. He remained dedicated to this cause for the rest of his life.
A proud veteran, Glen served his country from 1952-56 in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his brother, David Brooks, and wife, Evelyn; his son, David Lee Brooks, and wife, Annette; and his daughter, Janice Herrara, and husband, Robert. Glen is also survived by five stepchildren: Patrick Kelly and wife, Brenda; Candy Key and husband, Bryan; Cade Coldren and wife, Mary; Kyle Coldren and wife, Susan; and Cody Carson and husband, Darren. He took great joy in following the lives and accomplishments of his many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Brooks and Della Mae Purport and his three wives: Thelma Downey Brooks, Cleda Crawford Brooks, and Ida Flo Coldren Brooks.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene.
A Veterans service will be held at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene, Texas, on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 301 S. Pioneer Drive, Abilene, Texas 79605, in Glen’s honor.
