Gerald P. “Jerry” Schwalb, 88, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022, in Abilene.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2022, with prayer service and rosary to follow at 5:30 p.m., at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022, Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Jerry was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Edvidge Zuline (Pollet) and Jacob Peter Schwalb on Monday, January 22, 1934. He played football for Catholic High School, where he graduated, in Baton Rouge and earned his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, having lettered at both schools and has been a member of the “L” Club since 1954.  Jerry earned his master’s degree from Inter American University while in the Air Force.

Jerry retired from the Air Force after serving 24 years at Lt. Col., he had numerous honors and awards during his career.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jerry served as Dean of TSTC-Abilene Campus. He was instrumental in developing and opening the Abilene extension. He actively initiated the development and creation of the Aircraft Maintenance Program for the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) at the Abilene Municipal Airport.

An active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, Southern Little League, Noah Project, Inc., Hendrick Hospice as Chaplain. He was a member of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Military Affairs Committee and United Way.

Served in several positions with the Military Officers Association of America, including President.

Jerry was ordained as a Deacon of the Catholic Church in June of 1995. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene.

Jerry loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded by his wife, Barbara Jean Schwalb and one son, Gerald Peter Schwalb, Jr.

He is survived by his sons, Christopher Paul Schwalb and significant other Sharon Christine McCarville of Woodway, Kevin David Schwalb and wife Janet Giuliani Schwalb of Alexandria, VA., Steven George Schwalb and wife Kelsy Smith Schwalb of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Tyler Schwalb, Carter Ellis Schwalb, Graham Parker Schwalb, Nicholas Patrick Schwalb, Catherine Grace Schwalb, Jack David Schwalb, Clare Marie Schwalb, Jacob Owen Schwalb, Noah Peter Schwalb, and Laura Marie Schwalb; great grandchildren, Cody Peter Schwalb, and Kierra Marie Schwalb; brother, Jacob Anthony Peter Schwalb and wife Bobbie of Ormond Beach, Florida.
