Georgan DeLafosse Wheat

January 23, 1926 — April 17, 2023

Georgan Wheat was born in Albany, Texas in 1926, the daughter of George and Leta DeLafosse. She passed into the arms of the Lord on Monday, April 17, 2023, in Plano, TX.

She graduated from Albany High School in 1943 and received a BS degree from The University of Texas where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She married Curtis Wheat on September 10, 1946. They lived in Austin and Midland, Texas before moving to Abilene in 1949.

Georgan was a member of the First Central Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and an Elder. She was past president of Pierian Club and the Alliance and served as trustee of the Alliances for six years. She was also a former member of the Junior League of Abilene and the Abilene Woman’s Club. She was a volunteer for Presbyterian Medical Mission, church food pantry, and Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her three daughters; Ginger O’Steen of Grapevine, Sarah Johnson of Rockwall, and Karen Steinhorst and husband Cort of Plano; seven grandchildren, Will O’Steen of Las Vegas, Sassie Duggleby and husband Andrew of Friendswood, Nancy Johnson of Rockwall, Lanny O’Steen and wife Jennifer of Grapevine, Leigh Stauffer and husband Tim of Maypearl, Curt Steinhorst and wife Kimi of Frisco, and Marjorie Johnson of Irving. Also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on April 28, 2023 at the First Central Presbyterian Church, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
