Gelene Stockton

Gelene Stockton, 86, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at a local hospital. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 7, 2008 in the chapel at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Friday at the Kerens Cemetery in Kerens, Navarro County, Texas under the direction of Paschal Funeral Home of Kerens. She and her twin sister Geraldine were born January 31, 1922 to Willie and Beulah Reed in Kerens, Texas. She graduated from Kerens High School in 1939. On August 3, 1947 she married Zack Stockton in Kerens. The family moved to Abilene in 1958. She lived a very active and dedicated life making a home for Zack and their two sons. Gelene is survived by her husband, Zack of Abilene, sons Scott and wife Janet of Richardson, Texas and Stephen and wife Vonna of Golden, Colorado. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Autumn Fankhauser and husband Matt and their sons Caden and Jack of Austin, Texas; Tommy Stockton of Frisco, Texas; Jacob, Wesley, and Kevin Stockton, of Golden, Colorado; several cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leroy Reed, and sisters, Lottie Pulley, Leona Lewis, and Geraldine Boyd. She was a very active volunteer for Hendrick Hospital Auxiliary since 1971. Other interest and organizations include Abilene Garden Club, Thursday Quilters, First Central Presbyterian Church and Friendly Class, and Central Texas Gem & Mineral Society. She greatly enjoyed china painting, and over many years shared pieces of lovely hand-painted china with family and friends. Memorials may be made to Kerens Presbyterian Church, 301 S.E. 3rd Street, Kerens, Texas 75144; Abilene Garden Club, or to the donor's favorite charity.
