Gaylord Max McCollum

1931 — October 9, 2021

Gaylord Max McCollum (Mac) beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2021.  He was born in Loraine, Texas, on August 11, 1931, to Edgar Clinton McCollum and Lessie Pearl Britton.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served four years in the Pacific during the Korean War.  Following his service, he worked in the oil and gas industry including four years in Algeria. Mac lived many years in Odessa and following retirement he lived at Canyon Lake and then recently in Abilene.

He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-six years, Wanda Sue Cantwell, and a grandson, Alex Terhune.  He is survived by daughters, Valerie Turner and husband James, Brenda Terhune and husband Roy, and Carmen Foster and husband J.R.  Grandchildren are, Lindsey and Ben Cotton, Garrett and Jennifer Hoskins, Kristen and Gary Henson, Erica and Tommy Bell, Daniel and Clayre Turner, Miles and Katie Terhune, and Rachel and Billy Lee.  His fourteen great grandchildren are William, Emma, Wesley, Jack, Owen, Riley, Dakari, Staton, Madison, Taylor, Jackson, Lincoln, Luke, Charlie, Annabelle, and Olivia.

Mac was completely devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A celebration of his life was held October 11, 2021, in Abilene.  Burial followed in the Loraine City Cemetery. His grandsons served as pallbearers. Services were under the direction of the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Memorials may be given to the Hillcrest Church of Christ Comfort & Hope ministry. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sandra Hazelip and the staff of Windcrest Health and Rehabilitation and Hendrick Hospice for their care.
