Gayland Childers

Gayland Childers, 61, of Abilene passed away Friday, April 8, 2022. He was born on March 5, 1961 in Brownwood, TX to Chester “Boots” and Vada Childers.

Time for viewing will be from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 10 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will follow on Monday, April 11 at 2:30 pm in the funeral home chapel, with burial following at Tye Cemetery.

Gayland graduated Merkel High School in 1980. He was the former mayor of Tye, and on the Tye City Council for many years. Gayland worked at the Texaco Station in Tye and then for Baker Distributing for 16 years. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He will be lovingly remembered for being loyal and hard working.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester “Boots” Childers.

Gayland is survived by his wife, Cindy Childers; their sons, Jason and Tyler Childers; his mother, Vada Childers; his brother, Garland Childers and wife Terri, and their sons Andrew and Landon Childers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
