Gary Wendell Norwood, age 66, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005 in a Houston hospital. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 15th, at 2:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H.B. Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Gary Wendell Norwood was born on February 12, 1939 in Nolan, Texas to Marvin Norwood and Juanita Clayton Norwood. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1956 and attended Hardin Simmons University. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and upon return from the service, became a resident of Houston where he had resided for the past forty years. Gary retired from Exxon Mobil after twenty-eight years as a computer systems analyst. He loved to paint, garden, do crossword puzzles, and especially loved the theatre, musicals, operas, and old movies. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Norwood. Gary is survived by his brother, Marvin Norwood, Jr., of Abilene; his sister, Jean Norwood, of Cota De Caza, California; a niece, Anne and her husband, Dan Manassero, of Yorba Linda, California; a great niece, Laurel Anne Shedd of Yorba Linda, California; and an aunt, Lorene Boykin, of Abilene.
