Dr. Freddie Jon Blackwell

Dr. Freddie Jon Blackwell, 82, of Abilene, passed away on August 9th, 2025, at the family ranch in south Taylor County.

Viewing will be 4:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday August 12, 2025 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday August 13th, 2025 at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery with pastor Chuck Reynolds of Grace Baptist Church, officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Freddie Jon Blackwell was born in Abilene to J.O. (Odell) and Freda Blackwell on November 26th, 1942. He graduated from Wylie High School, then attended Texas A&M University earning a B.S. in Animal Husbandry, a M.S. in Animal Science, and a D.V.M. He married his high school sweetheart Jimmie Sue Sherley on January 20th, 1961 in Buffalo Gap, Texas. Dr. Blackwell was a retired veterinarian and rancher.

Freddie was preceded in death by J.O. Blackwell, Freda Blackwell, and Barry Blackwell, as well as lifelong friend Sammy Talley.

Freddie is survived by his spouse Jimmie Sue Blackwell, son Tommie Jon Blackwell and wife Holly, one grandchild Cade Blackwell, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
