Frances Ann Loving

1937 — September 8, 2020

Frances Ann “Fran” Carlton Loving, 83, of Tuscola, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at her home with her loving husband and daughter by her side. She was born on January 20, 1937, in Ballinger to Leslie Carlton, Sr. and Monie Johana Schumm Carlton, a Pioneer Runnels County Family. The family will receive friends and loved ones at a visitation on Saturday, September 12 from 11 AM until 1 PM, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be 3 PM Sunday, September 13, also at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, officiated by Chris Hale. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery. Face masks are encouraged for both visitation and funeral service. Fran grew up in western Runnels County near the Maverick Community, at what was known as the Flat Rock Crossing on the Colorado River. After graduating Bronte High School in 1955, she moved to Abilene and went on to attend McMurry College (University), where she was a member of Alpha Pi Alpha. She married Clarence Malcolm Loving on September 26, 1958 in Bronte, Coke County, Texas. She worked many years as a Legal Secretary/Legal Assistant for Abilene attorneys, such as John Crutchfield, Ellison F. Gerlach, McCreary Law Firm of Austin, Texas, Robert D. Grisham, and Gary Shahan. She was also a weekend receptionist for KRBC Radio and Television in Abilene. Fran was a member of the Abilene Garden Club, and she and Malcolm were Square and Round Dancers with Key City Squares for many years. She was a volunteer Zoo Guide and a Convention Hostess for the Abilene Convention /Visitors Bureau. In 1983, they moved to the Elm Valley Community, where she enjoyed the Elm Valley Coffee Group. She was a hummingbird and butterfly enthusiast – she fed hummingbirds for some 35 years, and quite a number would come to her feeders. Fran loved to sew – in fact, she even made the wedding dress for her daughter, Leslee. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and loved being a country girl once again. She created many dried silk and flower arrangements. Most of all, Fran loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Jerry Malcolm Loving on September 29, 2010, of Orange Park, FL. Also predeceased by three brothers: Leslie Carlton, Jr. of Petersburg, TX, Leland Carlton of Maverick, TX, and Russell Carlton of Maverick, TX; one sister, Mildred Juanita Carlton Sandlin of Abilene; sister-in-law (who she loved like a sister), Annie Lois Borders Carlton. Fran is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Malcolm Loving; daughter, Leslee D’Ann Loving Herald of Temple; grandchildren: Jason Leslie Loving, Zachary Austin Loving, William Alexander Herald, and Lauren Elizabeth Herald Milstain, and her four great grandchildren: Jacob Leslie Loving, Addison Marie Loving, Bruce Alexander Herald, and Riley Rose Milstain.
