Alice Florine Smith

Alice Florine Smith,95, a longtime Hamby resident passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 in Abilene.

The daughter of Grady Lee and Bertha Ann (Riley) Smith, Florine was born on July 20, 1926 in Jones County, Texas.  She was a 1944 graduate of Abilene High School and attended Draughon’s Business College.  She was employed by an Abilene neurosurgeon and Otolaryngology Associates. 

She was a member of Hamby Home Extension Club.  In 1994 Florine was honored by the Taylor County Extension Program Council and was named outstanding cooperator in Family and Consumer Services. 

A longtime member of Hamby Baptist Church, Florine taught Sunday school, held offices, and served on various committees of the church throughout the years.

Florine was preceded in death by her father and mother, Grady Lee and Bertha Ann Smith; niece, Kerri Gosdin; and nephews, Terry Lee Cook and Larry Don Clemmer and her sister and her husband Lou Ann Cook and husband Don of McKinney.

Survivors include sisters, Recia Clemmer of Midland, and a brother, Grady George Smith and wife Karen of Granbury.  She is also survived by nephews, Monty Scott Clemmer and wife Tricia of Brownwood, D.W. Smith of Ft. Stockton, and Paul Smith and wife, Dia of Sharon, Maine; nieces, Donna Michelle Kelley of Allen, and Lindsay Smith of Granbury, as well as several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 12th at the Hamby Cemetery with Bro. Jim Ritter officiating.
