Florence Mae Boyd of Abilene passed away on August 13, 2021 in Abilene.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 28th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Chris McCurley of Oldham Lane Church of Christ will be officiating.

Florence Boyd was a resident of Abilene for over 60 years and was married to Ray Boyd, a building contractor.  Florence owned and operated Park Terrace Beauty Salon.  During her career as a hairdresser, she was active in the Texas Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association where she was named Cosmetologist of the Year and awarded Affiliate President of the Year to represent Texas in New York at the national convention.  In 1982 and 1983 she was honored for outstanding service to the handicapped of the Southwest by the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.  Florence also worked in her later years as the receptionist at the Abilene Reporter News.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Boyd.

Service to her community was very important to Florence.  She volunteered for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, the Ben Richey Boys Ranch, the Grace Museum, served on the Military Affairs Committee of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and was active in the RSVP of Abilene. 

Florence is survived by her three sons: Ray Boyd Jr of Abilene, John and Jean Boyd of Fort Worth, Wayne and Theresa Boyd of Wilson, OK and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the WTRC or the Grace Museum.
