Evelyn Owens

October 31, 1946 — October 10, 2025

Evelyn Ruth Owens stepped peacefully into her heavenly home on Friday, October 10, 2025. Evelyn was born in San Angelo, Texas on October 31, 1946. Her parents were William Albert Stewart and Ethel Agnes (Brown) Stewart. She completed high school in San Angelo. She had seven siblings and two are still living that is Alford Cecil Stewart and Joe Kye Stewart. There are five who have passed away and they are John Henry Stewart, Alberta Louise Scroggins, Katherine Agnes Taylor, Opal Pauline Stewart, and William Albert Stewart.

She was married to James Darrell Owens who preceded her in death.

Evelyn was a homemaker and she loved her family and always wanted the best for them. She had registered childcare in her home for many years. She loved the children that she was able to teach school curriculum, and to teach them about God. She formed bonds with each family to which she still had relationships with until the end of her journey.

She was blessed with five children. She has three children still living and they are Cheryl Ann Rucker, Nicky Gene Rucker, and Rebecca Sue Baldwin. Two of her children have passed away and they are David Bobolow Burkes and Donna Fay Burkes.

Evelyn had eight grandchildren and felt blessed by them, too. They are Sheliah Baldwin, Christina Baldwin, Leah Jacoby, Kara Keele, David Keele, Chakotah Baldwin, Ashley Danielle Salazar, and Andrea Nichole Salazar. She was also blessed with nine great grandchildren.

Above all else, Evelyn loved her Savior Jesus Christ. She faced all her problems with grit, determination, and strength these last few months because she knew she would be going home someday soon. Broadview Baptist is where she enjoyed worshiping the Lord and studying the Bible. Her wit was delightful and she always made others laugh. One time she told her Sunday School class that she was falling so much that she needed her whole body wrapped in bubble wrap. There was joy in her heart and she definitely spread it to others.

The family would like to thank the staff at Windcrest and Hendrick Hospice for their kindness in taking care of Evelyn. Also, a special thank you to Lesa Flannagan, Ken and Phyllis Trevathan, Burtis Williams, Broadview Baptist Church, Faith Class and a special friend and sister in Christ, Flossie Hoover, because she loved you all.
