Dr. Duane Casey Miller

Dr. Duane C. Miller was born November 15, 1934 to Velma Casey and Covert James Miller in Lawton, Oklahoma. Duane attended Lincoln Elementary School and Lawton High School where both of his parents attended. In high school, Duane edited the high school newspaper as well as Cameron College. He attended Cameron for two years then he attended the University of Oklahoma where he got his medical degree. He did a one year internship in San Francisco, California. Duane then began a residency at Stanford in Palo Alto, California. He graduated from Stanford and started a private practice in Palo Alto, California.

At the age of 33, Duane was drafted during Vietnam and was a Major stationed at Ft. Ord. His daughter, Cathey Moore Miller and son, David Clayton Miller were born in Palo Alto, California. Duane loved to play sports and snow ski with Cathey and Clay.

After leaving the Army, he and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. He was in private practice and on the clinical staff at Southwestern. 

In 1984 he and his wife Judy moved to Abilene for him to accept a position of Chief of Psychiatry at Woods. While at Woods he worked with Abilene State School and clients of New Horizons which became Abilene Behavioral Health and then Arcadia and finally Oceans Behavioral Health where he served as Chief of Psychiatry for many years.

He and his wife adopted two children from Romania - Michael Casey Miller and Sarah Elizabeth Miller. Duane always enjoyed reading and fishing and doing things with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Michael and Clay Miller; daughters, Elizabeth and Cathey Miller; his grandchildren, two nephews, John David Boyle and Todd Boyle and numerous other family and friends including Pat Boyle. 

A visitation will be on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene. A funeral service will be Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11:00am at First Central Presbyterian Church, 400 Orange St., Abilene.
