Douglas George Ayers

Douglas George Ayers, 74, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 at a local hospital. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 24 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services, with Mark Aldriedge, Greg Pavlik and Foy Mills officiating, will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 25 at the Hamby Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Elmwood. Douglas was born September 3, 1934 in Colorado City, Texas to Dee and Jimmie (Doss) Ayers. He graduated in 1953 from Snyder High School. He started working for Mobile / Exxon in the summer of 1951 and in 1953 he began working full-time for the company. He worked for Cities Service Oil for four years and then started his own company which he ran for 30 years. On October 26, 1956, Douglas married Jacqueline (Jacque) Harrison in Midland, Texas. He served in the United States Army. Douglas was a member of the Aledo Church of Christ, prior to moving to Weatherford, Texas in 1983. He and Jacque were members of South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford for 25 years. He served as a deacon at both churches. Abilene has been his home for the past 11 months. He was currently a member of Hamby Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents. Douglas is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jacque Harrison Ayers; three daughters, Patti Ayers Pavlik and husband Greg, Mitzi Ayers Mills and husband Foy, Terri Ayers Aldriedge and husband Mark; six grandchildren, Joshua and Jeffery Pavlik, Whitney Mills Kasinger and husband Joshua, Lindsey Mills, Shay and Jace Aldriedge; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Ella Kasinger. The family of Douglas Ayers would like to express their thanks and gratitude to all health professionals at Hendrick Hospital and Dr. Noel Chant.
