David Norman Spurlin

David Norman Spurlin, 77, of Tuscola, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at his home.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Gap Cemetery near Tuscola. Pallbearers will be Leo Dennis, Bob Jordan, Danny Jordan, Joel Oliver, Melvin Cheek, and Jeremy Hardman.

David was born in Abilene on January 17, 1944 to Norman and Verna Spurlin. After he graduated from Abilene High, he attended Hardin Simmons University and University of North Texas. He married Linda Sylvester on December 10, 1965 in Abilene. He worked as a teacher at Jefferson Middle School in Abilene for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verna Ray; father, Norman Spurlin; sister, Sandra Hewlit, and son, Guy Spurlin.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Spurlin; son, Jayson Spurlin; grandchildren, Eliudi Spurlin, Olivia Lee, Aubrey Clemons, Isabella Pretzer, and Megan Smith; great-grandchildren, Adela Spurlin, Sailor Lee, Silas Lee, and Capri Clemons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hendrick Home for Children, or the donor’s favorite charity.

David’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Heaven, Hendrick Hospice, and Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
