David Riley

October 12, 1944 — March 23, 2023

David Everett Riley (78), loving husband and father passed away at his Assisted Living home Thursday, March 23, 2023. He will be remembered for his quiet manner, subtle humor, and uncomplaining attitude.

David was born October 12, 1944 to James and Bertha Riley in Brighton, Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University and joined the US Air Force. After a tour in Vietnam, he married Mary Ashby in 1971. They settled in Abilene, TX to raise three children. His work career included A & P Tea Company, West Texas Utilities, Cummin Supply, and the Abilene State School. He enjoyed golf and watching his grandchildren play.

The family is grateful for the wonderful people of Brookdale Summer Ridge assisted living in Rockwall for their years of care and assistance. And tremendous appreciation is felt for the loving, heart-felt care received from his personal caregivers: Karen, Roberta, Bruce, Bella, Lisa, Kim & Mary.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy, brother, Bill and son, Steven. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Rockwall; daughter, Cindy Hodge and husband, Brandon of Caddo Mills; son, Christopher and wife, Megan of Pflugerville; daughter-in-law, Heather of Burleson; grandchildren and numerous other family members.

Graveside services will be Monday, March 27 at 10 am conducted by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with burial at Drummond Cemetery. In leu of flowers, family requests donations be made to a favorite charity in David’s memory.
