Clifford St Clair Johnston, 84, of Abilene, passed away on 02/22/2024 in Abilene, Texas.

 Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm, Sunday, February 25 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

 Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, February 26 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Chaplain Bobby Towell, officiating. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.  

 Cliff Johnston was born in Somerville, Massachusetts to Walter Johnston and Evelyn Shirley Rice on February 2, 1940.  He went to school at the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1972. He had married Ruthanne Davis on October 14, 2017, in Palmer, Texas.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, served in the Army for 30 years, retiring at the rank of Major and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Medal with Valor Device, the Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Medal (2), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2) and 5 Overseas Service Bars.  He was a Mason, he enjoyed Square-Dancing all-over Europe and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America.

 Cliff was preceded in death by his Spouse, Ruthanne Johnston.  

 Cliff is survived by son Bill Johnston and wife Candis, daughter Kimberley Hawley and husband Kenny, sister Marilyn Johnston, grandchildren Kyle Johnston, Amber Breeding and husband Joshua, Thomas Devine, Chel Devine, Andrew Devine and wife Kara, Anne Devine and husband Callum, Daniel Devine, and great-grandchildren Brian Breeding and Cora Limerick.

 Pallbearers will be from the U.S. Army; the procession will be escorted to the cemetery by the Texas Patriot Guard.
