Cindy Wier

Cindy Elaine Harrison Wier, our beloved Mimi, passed away at the age of 75 on Friday, July 31, 2026, in Abilene, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Visitation and a small reception will be Thursday, August 20th at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, August 21st at the First Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Mike Greenfield officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 7457 West Lake Road. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Cindy was born in Clovis, New Mexico on March 20, 1951, to Dr. Earl Preston Harrison and Gola Earnestine Harrison. Her family moved to Abilene in 1957 when her father became Chairman of the Geology Department at Hardin-Simmons University. Cindy grew up running across the HSU campus and cheering at football and basketball games and was crowned the University Queen during her college years. She graduated from Abilene High School and then attended HSU, where she pledged Delta Social Club. In 1973, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Later she went back to pursue her a master’s degree in counseling and human development from Hardin-Simmons University in 2003.

She married Captain Raymond David Wier, Jr. in Abilene, Texas at First Baptist church on March 28, 1975, where they first met. Love at first sight said the young Captain. They celebrated their 51st anniversary this March.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Earl Preston Harrison and Gola Earnestine Harrison and her sister Gail Harrison Dillard.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Captain Raymond David Wier Jr.; two children, son, John Matthew Wier and daughter, Jordan Leigh Wier; and five granddaughters, Daniella Michaela Lintini, Kerah Elaine Wier, Madison Leigh McDonald, Lilian Grace Wier and Mia Elizabeth Denis.

Since the beginning of her life Cindy was someone that knew perseverance as a virtue. She lived her life with a tenacity and larger than life attitude that led to many accomplishments. From working at Hendrick Medical Center, first as Director of Public Relations and later as Vice President of the Hendrick Medical Center Foundation to an entrepreneur and owner of Kid’s Kottage. But her lifelong legacy and greatest endeavor is what defined her life and led to being the Chief Executive Officer of Serenity House where she retired after at least 30 years of tireless service in July of 2023. In honor of her life, the Cindy Wier Chapel and Prayer Garden will stand in memory of her dedication to changing lives at Serenity House. Cindy believed hope could sometimes accomplish what fear could not. She loved her family, cheeseburgers, shopping with her granddaughters and was always stylish in her animal print attire and fancy heels.

But the belief she left behind should never change:

No person is beyond hope.

No life is beyond redemption.

And sometimes one person believing in you is enough to help you believe in yourself again.

That is Cindy Wier’s legacy.

And it is one worth carrying forward.
