Charles Ray Herrell

Charles Ray Herrell, Sr., 81, of Mansfield, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at his home in Mansfield. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2020 at Elmwood Memorial Park with the Dr. Jeff Reid, officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Charles was born on June 5, 1939 in Abilene to the late Ray C. and Clara Bell (Holmes) Herrell. He and Sharon Steele were married on August 1, 1958 in Abilene. Charles worked as a bricklayer for most of his life, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Union Apprenticeship in Abilene. He served in the US Marines. Charles and Sharon moved to Mansfield in 1964. He was an avid fisherman. Charles was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Lee Herrell and one brother, Kenneth Dale Herrell. Charles is survived by his wife Sharon of Mansfield; two sons, Charles Ray Herrell, Jr. and wife Lisamarie of Mansfield and John Gregory Herrell of Mansfield; one daughter, Shari Jan Krieger and husband Mike of Mansfield; one sister, Dorothy Jean Herrell Byram and husband Mack of Hobbs, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Jeremy Ray Herrell, Melissa Carlotta Herrell McCoy, and Matthew Don Steen; two bonus grandchildren, Joey and Josh Krieger; and one great granddaughter, Elise Rae McCoy. Family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
