Carolyn was born Abilene, TX to Ethel Hawkins Dupree and Thomas Travis on October 29, 1943. She attended school in Abilene. She married her soulmate, Travis Swinney, on August 28, 1979 after the death of her 1st husband, Clarence Staggs. Together with their children, they would form a beautiful family. Carolyn worked various jobs starting at a young age but the one we all remember the most is her time at Mr. G's. She could outwork any young person and did for many years. Her grandchildren still remember Grandma making sure they had milkshakes and french fries any time we stopped by to see her. She was a lifetime member of First United Pentecostal Church, now Abundant Life Apostolic Ministries but also enjoyed visiting the churches attended by her children. She served God faithfully all of her life and was not afraid to tell others what He had done for her and her family.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her late husband Travis, her 1st husband Clarence, her parents, a daughter Mary Roeder, several siblings, aunts & uncles.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Dwayne Staggs (wife Alischa), Tommy Staggs (wife Lori), Yvonne Peterson (husband Rick) and Sherry Roeder (husband Craig). She was blessed with her grandchildren, Renee Gibson (Rick), Sarah Garrison (Jeff), Tracy Matthews (Eric), Corrie Gilham (Dustin), Nathan Staggs (Dara), Ashley Beeman (Charles), Jessica Peterson, Shyanne Peterson, Brad Peterson, Zach Catledge and 22 great grandchildren. Along with her children & grandchildren she is survived by her sister, Nell Teague, sisters in law Aggie Dupree, Wanda Bewley and Frances Page plus an abundance of nieces & nephews. Of course, her family did not stop there, she had too many friends to list who were just like family, for many years.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses.
Memorials may be given to Hendrick Hospice.
The family of Carolyn Swinney wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hendrick Hospice, Wisteria Place Assisted Living and all of the doctors & nurses who cared for her through the years. We want to extend a special thank you to Rhonda and Gigi from Wisteria, who loved & cared for our Momma like she was their own.
