Brenda Barker

Brenda Lou Barker, 63, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on November 8, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.

Brenda was born in Santa Anna, Texas, to Lacy and Vera Culpepper on October 24, 1962. She went to school in Santa Anna and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1981. She married James (Jim) Allen Barker on August 27, 1982, in Santa Anna. She worked in the housekeeping profession until she recently retired. She had lived in East Texas for many years and recently returned to the Abilene area for her medical care and to reside with family here. While living in Mount Vernon, she was an active member of Grace Baptist Church.

Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; Parents, Lacy and Vera; brother, Tony Culpepper, brother-in-laws Dennis Raines and Kevin Massey.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Tilley and husband John of Bay City, Michigan; Son, James Barker Jr., and Wife Kayla and one grandson Jaxton Reed Barker, all of Winfield, Texas. She is also survived by four sisters, Bernidine Raines of Abilene, Sharon Alvey and husband Ronald of Frisco; Susan Barnes of Crawford; and Connie Massey and Mike Hester of Abilene. She is also survived by three brothers: Tommy Culpepper and wife, Teresa of Brownwood; Jerry Don Culpepper and wife Susie of Zephyr; James Culpepper and wife Karyn of Abilene. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews

Memorials can be given to Hendrick Hospice or Cancer Services Network, both in Abilene, Texas. The family of Brenda’s wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Ebenezer Appah, Dr. Brent Mahoney and Dr. Jaxon Jordan and all of the staff at the Hendrick Medical Center. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Hendrick Hospice.
