Bonnie Morgan

September 25, 1934 — May 26, 2025

Bonnie Joyce Pope Morgan was born on September 25, 1934, to Ada and Dudley Pope of Travis Peak, Texas. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 26, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Bonnie's father, Dudley, was a farmer and rancher who worked in the Travis Peak and South Texas Valley areas. Bonnie grew up on a farm, performing all the typical farm girl chores and playing with her older brother and younger sister out in the barns, fields, and creeks that surrounded their family home. One particular event that lived in their family lore was when Bonnie and her little sister, Belva, found a litter of kittens and brought them home. Those kittens, much to their mother's horror, turned out to be a litter of baby skunks. Their mother would later say that the smell never really left their home. That part of her life was never far from her heart and mind. Even in her last few months of life, she would tell doctors and nurses that she was "just a country girl."

Bonnie graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1953 and went on to complete training at Durham Business College in Austin, Texas. Before marrying, she and her roommates would travel the country, delivering various cousins to their assigned military bases. She had several hobbies, including playing 42, sewing, fishing, cooking, tennis, and bowling. She excelled at all, winning many of the coveted ash trays they awarded in the 1960-70's for bowling. She worked at various government agencies throughout her career, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Bergstrom Air Force Base, the Internal Revenue Service, eventually retiring from the Liberty Hill Independent School District.

Upon retirement, she moved to Abilene from Liberty Hill to be closer to her grandchildren and became an active member of Southwest Park Baptist Church. Her days were filled with attending her grandkids' events, playing cards and taking day trips with her church friends, baking, cooking, and enjoying a well-deserved retirement. In 2004, Bonnie moved in with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids, and lived there until she left this world. She was an integral part of her family and friend group, and made sure her flowers always had plenty of water. She showed a deep and committed love to her family, her friends, and her Jesus.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Dudley Pope, her brother, JD Pope, her sister, Belva Cox, and her step-daughter in-law, Ginger Morgan. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Blinda and Chris Raley of Abilene, TX; her step-son, Mike Morgan of Abilene, TX; her grandchildren, Morgan Raley, Lucas and Anna Raley, Joni Morgan, Jenni Roemisch, and five great-grandchildren.
