Billy Dean Stokes, 80, of Abilene, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Abilene, Texas in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Sunday, May 31, 2026, by Bryan Stokes at Hodges Baptist Church in Hawley, Texas. Burial will follow at 4:00pm Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Buffalo Gap Cemetery. Arrangements are with The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Billy was born in Abilene, Texas to Virgil H. Stokes and Sallie Faye Stokes on October 29th, 1945. He went to school in Hawley. He married the love of his life, Sue on June 18th, 1966, at The Church of Christ in Buffalo Gap, Texas. He worked as a truck driver for 50+ years, in those years he hauled for Merchants Freight Line, Holly Sugar, Texas Tandem and The Leach Pit. He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam. He loved his country, his family and most importantly his dog, Sissy.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Linda and Brenda), his brothers (Tim & Virgil) and his son, Brad Denton Stokes.
Billy is survived by his Wife Sue, daughter Tammy Gorham and husband Patrick of Graham, Texas, His brother John Stokes and Wife, Ernestine of Weatherford, Texas, 5 grandchildren: Valerie Perry and husband, Gabe of Abilene, Texas, Zachary Wilkinson of Graham, Texas, Ethan Stokes, Addison Stokes and Honor Stokes of Fort Worth, Texas, one great granddaughter, Oaklynn Perry, daughter in-law Sara Hubert of Fort Worth, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Sissy, his most loyal companion.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Gorham, Gabe Perry, Hank Stokes, Paul Stokes, Andy Stockton and Netz Regaldo.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hodges Baptist Church.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of the Big Country, West Texas Rehab for their care and support during this difficult phase in our lives.
