Bettie Jo Wiley

June 12, 1941 — October 16, 2023

Bettie Wiley, 82, of Abilene Texas departed life on Oct. 16, 2023, in Abilene, Texas.

Family Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday Oct. 28, 2023, Pastor Nathan Barber officiating.

Bettie was born in Malone, Texas to R.D. and Gussie Lee Allen on June 12, 1941. She was the middle child of thirteen children.

Bettie married her first love, Billy B. Sneed, in Malone Texas on July 9, 1960. This union bore 5 children, one son and four daughters.

Bettie spent her life as wife, mother, homemaker. Bettie was mother to not only her children, but many others. Her home was always open to neighborhood youth. Bettie was an artist in the kitchen and around a sewing machine, making many of her children’s clothing.

Bettie and Billy separated amicably in 1981.

Bettie continued caring for other children, helping to run a local daycare in Abilene, The Christ House.

Bettie was a God-Fearing Woman and On Oct. 26, 2002, remarried. Becoming the wife of a Pastor, Otis Wiley, and First Lady of Goodwill Baptist Church they were married until Otis’s passing in March 2020.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, R.D. and Gussie Lee Allen; a son Jerry Wayne, her Husband Otis Wiley, 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and a grandson.

Bettie is survived by her first husband, Billy Sneed of Killeen, TX; her daughters: Debra (Chester) Bennett of League City, Billie Sneed of Abilene, Betty Payne of Abilene, Margret (Terry) Talley of Abilene, three sisters: Effie Mae Brewster of Abilene, Ruby (Nat) Dickerson of Wichita Falls, Murlene (Tommie) Whitson of Austin.

5 grandchildren: Natasha Fuller, Cypress; Chawanda Richardson, Virginia; Berrera Payne, Abilene; Chris Talley, Weatherford; Jeri Sneed, Abilene.

5 Great grandchildren: Kloe Fuller, Tre’Chaun Payne, Alijah Fuller, Carter Talley, Knox Talley.

And host of Nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Family of Bettie wishes to extend our Sincere thanks to Dr. Sandra Hazelip, Windcrest Rehab Staff and Nurses.

Hendrick Hospice: Chaplain, Dr. Ken Lyle; Nurse, Kim Mclaughlin; Aides: Robert, Arlene and all the others that have helped care for her these last years.
