1930 — June 29, 2022

Beatrice Marie Glenewinkel, 91, passed from this earth on June 29, 2022, in Granbury, Texas after a brief illness.

Bea was the third of four children born to Albert and Alma Hohhertz on October 22, 1930.  As a young girl, her father purchased a small dairy farm near Merkel, Texas where she would live out her childhood.  Bea graduated from Merkel High School in 1948 and was soon employed by GMAC in Abilene, Texas.  She married John Glenewinkel of Merkel on July 7, 1950.  Shortly afterwards, John was employed by Amoco which moved them from town to town during his career until they returned back home to Abilene in 1990.

Bea was a homemaker and a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also involved in her church’s Joy group where she enjoyed good food and fellowship.  For many years every Wednesday she and John would deliver meals for Meals on Wheels.  She loved cooking, camping, arts and crafts, but mostly loved taking care of her family.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and faithful member of her church.

Bea is survived by two children, Steve Glenewinkel of Abilene and Sheila McLean and husband Joe of Granbury; three grandchildren, Ashley Marshall and husband Justin of Weatherford, Whitney McLean of Weatherford, and Joseph McLean and wife Ashley of Granbury; one great grandchild, Everleigh Grace McLean of Granbury; one brother, Harold Hohhertz of Merkel, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bea is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John Glenewinkel of Abilene;  parents, Albert and Alma Hohhertz of Merkel; brother Herbert Hohhertz of Dallas, and sister Margaret Helberg of Abilene.

Visitation hours will be Tuesday, July 5, from 6 pm until 7:30 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd. on Wednesday, July 6, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 US-277 South.
