Barbara Womack

Barbara Womack, 91, of Abilene, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, in Abilene.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, with Dr. Jeff Reid of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and Mark Hewitt of Love and Care Ministries officiating.

Barbara was born in Rising Star, TX to Walter and Marie Smith on April 15, 1932.  She married Jimmy Dean (J.D.) Womack on December 17, 1955. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years together until his passing in March of 2015.  Barbara taught pre-kindergarten at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church for eight years, and Elmwood Baptist Church for six years, and would go on to teach kindergarten at Ridgemont Baptist Church for 11 years.  She also worked as a bookkeeper for West Texas Utilities for 5 ½ years.  When Barbara wasn’t working, she enjoyed volunteering at Love and Care Ministries.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Smith, her husband Jimmy Dean (J.D.) Womack, her brother Jack Smith, and her sister Johnnie Maxwell.

Barbara is survived by her son Jeff Womack.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Love and Care Ministries or Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
