Barbara Louise Ward McQueary passed from this earth on October 1, 2026. Barbara was born on June 21, 1947, in Bryan, Texas to Thomas Dudley Ward and Frances Louise Wright Ward.
Barbara grew up in Mineral Wells, Texas, and graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1965. She attended Southwestern University, North Texas State University, and graduated from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She began teaching for the Big Spring Independent School District and later retired from the Forsan Independent School District.
Barbara married William A. McQueary, Jr., in 1966. They were married for 60 years. They were members of the First Baptist Church in Big Spring where she served as Children’s Director prior to becoming an elementary teacher. After they moved to Abilene, they became members of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Bill and three sons: Tom and wife Jana of Big Spring; Tim and wife, Andrea of Kingwood, and Toby of Houston. Barbara’s grandchildren Ashley and Cade of Kingwood. She is also survived by her two sisters: Linda Roper and husband Vic of Clifton; and Edie DeWoody and husband Steve of Plano.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and a baby sister.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
