Anna Jane Hartwell (Demos) passed away on March 30, 2026, in Abilene, Texas. A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 6-8 PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home located at 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Abilene, Texas 79606. A Graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in Midland on Saturday, April 11th 11:00 am.
Anna Jane Hartwell was born on January 3, 1925, in Oklahoma City to James Peter Demos and Myrtle Demos. Her father immigrated from Greece with two of his brothers and became a citizen January 15, 1927. She had one brother, James P. Demos, Jr. and one sister, Georgia Braswell, who preceded her in death.She was a graduate of Monahans High School in 1941, where she played tennis & was on the drill team. She met her husband, Billy Ed Hartwell. They immediately started dating and were married in her parents' home, February 21, 1947.
Of her 3 children, she is survived by her eldest daughter, Vicki Lynn Lawrence. Jane was preceded in death by her son, Larry Gayle & youngest daughter, Shawna Denise.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki and daughter Morgan Lindsey King & husband Ryan, of Grand Prairie, TX; her grandson Brian Jason Murray, of Abilene, with his wife Tiffany and son Ethan; her granddaughter Callie Shea Murray of Denver with her son Murray Sheffield.
Other surviving family & special friends: Janet & Clark Murray, Abilene; Patsy Jones, of Midland -- friends for 70+ years; Leisa Gracia, Abilene. Nieces & nephews: Sharron, Jana, Janie, David, Rhonda, Sterling, Delane and Melanie, along with her sister-in-law, Nancy Kepp.
She was active in her churches all her life, latest Wylie Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, her University of Texas football team, snow and water skiing, and traveling. She was also a life-long member of Eastern Star and Pilots International. She moved 38 times in her lifetime, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan. She especially loved cruising.
